    Brushing Teeth With Braces

Thorough and effective brushing is crucial with braces to keep teeth clean and prevent tooth decay.  Electric toothbrushes are often a better option compared to manual toothbrushes, as they may brush more effectively around the braces and wires. Although an electric toothbrush may offer ease and convenience, the same technique and movements can also be achieved with a manual toothbrush with a little more effort on your part.

It is recommended that you brush gently for two full minutes while applying little pressure against the braces. With the electric toothbrushes, let the head spin/oscillate to clean and move it gradually and gently around all parts of the teeth (including the front, sides, back, and chewing surfaces).

In addition to brushing the teeth with braces, you should also use dental floss to clean in between the teeth, and at the same time look for any loose braces. If you find a loose braces that is no longer adhered to the tooth surface, please email our team and let us know so we can guide you to the next step.

This is a basic overview of how to brush braces, but we’re always happy to discuss dental care with braces with anyone visiting our Orthodontic office.
